11th International Workshop on Air Quality Forecasting Research (IWAQFR)

16 - 19 June 2025

Virtually hosted from Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Registration opens April 21st, 2025

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) hosts the 11th International Workshop on Air Quality Forecasting Research (IWAQFR) virtually from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This four day workshop is held 16 - 19 June 2025 with sessions held from 10am – 2 pm EDT virtually through the Pheedloop virtual event platform with Zoom integration.

The purpose of the International Workshop on Air Quality Forecasting Research is to provide a forum to discuss science issues and research advancements related to air quality forecasting. The objectives of these workshops include improving operational air quality forecasts, promoting collaborations among air quality forecasting researchers and practitioners, and cultivating an international air quality forecasting community.

This 11th workshop welcomes presentations on all aspects of air quality forecasting research, but with a particular emphasis on those related to research and development on emissions and inventories, modeling techniques such as inline coupling, observations (including satellites, low-cost air pollution monitoring) for model improvement, and topics of current interest such as wildfires forecasting, the use of artificial intelligence, and social science.

Participants in this year's IWAQFR include:

  • Those involved in research that supports operational air quality forecasting;

  • Those involved in research to improve air quality forecasting predictive capabilities in areas of particular interest, such as wildfires and artificial intelligence

  • Those involved in development of air quality forecast models used for operational or research purposes; and

  • Users of operational air quality models and forecasts.

The fully virtual format of this workshop will include virtual oral presentation and virtual poster sessions. Theme areas for this year's workshop are:

  • Posters - All aspects of AQ forecasting research

  • Theme 1: Recent Innovations in Operational Air Quality Forecasting

  • Theme 2: Priorities in Air Quality Model Development

  • Theme 3: Monitoring Data to Inform Air Quality Forecasting

  • Theme 4: Communicating Air Quality Forecasting Information and the Advancement of Air Quality Services

  • Panel Discussion – Various topics related workshop themes
